What is a Blue Moon?

Its here and SHINING BRIGHT upon us for Halloween!

The full moon is a celestial event that evokes a lot of cosmic curiosity across the land in minds both young and old alike. For centuries, we've been fascinated with the moon's illumination on earth and ancient cultures have named each Full Moon as a time keeper … or calendar of sorts.

For instance June’s Full Moon is named the Strawberry Moon as this is the month to harvest the ripe Strawberry fields -an ode to the warm Summer months arriving. In honor of that Strawberry Moon we created a Strawberry Quartz and Rose Quartz Crystal Candle and a Crystal Ritual Oil in our most popular Moon Milk fragrance. Originally a Limited Edition, it fast became a cult favorite and we now run these all year long. Limited Editions are a great way to add to your crystal collection while enjoying the fragrances you love.

The last Full Moon was named the Corn Moon or Harvest Moon because this is when corn crops were typically gathered at the end of the summer season. At this time, the Moon appears particularly bright and rises early, letting farmers continue harvesting into the night. In honor of that Full Moon we created these beautiful Harvest Moon Bundles to smudge your home and welcome in new fresh energy for the Autumn Equinox. We use beautiful Pampas grass (because corn stalks are weird!) and dried Eucalyptus stems as our creative spin on the traditional sage bundle. These are equally encouraged to just be used as decoration - on a shelf, a stack of art books or at your desk.

So back to What is a Blue Moon….. now on the 31st, we’re having our second Full Moon within one calendar month. According to Modern Folklore, Two occurring within the same month is referred to as a Blue Moon and it’s here today - on Halloween! The next Blue Moon won’t happen until August 2023. They tend to occur every 2.5 years on average according to the sources we read. Hence the saying “once in a Blue Moon”. Lastly, despite the name, the moon doesn't actually turn blue but still magical none the less!

My boyfriend and I decided to hop in the car and take a road trip out to Arizona to do a photo shoot with the Blue Moon set against the beautiful back drop of the Arizona desert. We also needed a change of scenery from this 7 month Covid lockdown and a road trip just the two of us was a perfect idea. *Feel free to use our images, just credit us #tinybandit @tinybandit. Some photos here will be used for our new 6th fragrance that is coming soon. Hint: Cactus notes may be involved :)

The Moon has been thought to have a considerable effect on our lives. Its physically and visually obvious by watching the ocean tides push and pull either the waxing and waning of the moon cycles but less obvious on our human bodies BUT it’s happening! Depending on your size, the human body is made up of between 55-78% water so the mystical idea is more scientific then you think. Moods and emotions can push and pull more during Full Moons and now you know why. Our bodies are mainly water.

Each Full Moon I cleanse crystals and get inspired to make Limited Editions that are more about being creative than making millions. I also view Full Moons as my monthly New Years Eve. Meaning an opportunity to reset and restore the mind and set some fresh intentions for my life. As my mantra goes, “Find your ritual and do what makes you well and happy”!

Happy Halloween lovelies, stay in your light.
