Working from home

What a year eh, I mean its August already!

With this month brings the normal end of Summer “back to school” conversations but they are now anything but normal. As the world continues to change I’ve been listening to so many friends talk about the challenges of homeschooling and WFH (working from home). As we all stay inside the majority of the time now EVERYONE across the board is trying to balance and define their own version of the new normal.

CV-19 doesn’t care if your home is big or little, if your black, white, brown or polka dot. If you’re wealthy or poor or in between. If you believe in healing crystal vibrations… or don’t :) It has infiltrated all of our lives and added a chapter in the history books that won’t be forgotten. Some friends have beautiful but small homes, or large but open concept layouts and when Mom Dad and Child all have to be home at all times, it becomes difficult to define everyones personal space to work, create, meditate, or study. So through many conversations I gathered a few tips that might help you cope and improve your spaces for homeschooling or working from home.

“Moon Milk is everything. I’m completely obsessed.” -Cat Friel

Since I’m obviously scent driven I have incorporated not only physical objects in defining space but also some of our very own goods. Since it’s August its too damn hot to light candles we have placed a Crystal Diffuser in lots of rooms in our house now. Reed diffusers fill a room with fragrance when air wafts past the tall reeds placed into the bottle. They soak up the fragrance and release when air passes by them. Having a fan on in a room with a Crystal Diffuser is ideal as it pushes cool air past the reeds with every oscillation. Win win!

I purposefully selected different fragrances for different atmosphere ‘feelings’. I have Moon Milk Crystal Diffusers in the relaxing spaces in my home like the living room and on my desk. The beachy notes of sun kissed tanning oil and Santal, Cardamom and Amber lift my spirit and make me feel at ease -and a little on vacation so work never ‘smells’ like work. The crystal property of Amazonite is not only visually stunning but metaphysically its said to encourage confidence and creativity. Things I tap into while working.

Where I do meditations and yoga and stretching I use Esprit Femme. Esprit Femme has a property that is both calming and aids in focus. Its both the fragrance blend of Lavender and Sage which imbues clarity and the crystal combo of Amethyst and Selenite that calms. Here I also have Cloud Mist in Esprit Femme and I spray a touch of that on my mat where I do downward dog or childs pose so when my mind wanders away that scent brings me right back to the focus I’m looking for.

In my bathroom, my vanity tray has a huge magenta orchid and Idyll Love Crystal Diffuser AND Crystal Ritual Oil. To be honest I have every scent of the perfume rollers but my go to in the Summertime is definitely Idyll Love. Its soft Jasmine floral with Coconut Milk and Citrus accord loosely reminds me of a more sophisticated Hawaiian Tropic scent - which I covet btw. Its a sexy fragrance easily moving from day into night.

It’s magical how powerful fragrance is. It can transport your senses to places, bring you back to places you’ve been or help you create and define new memories.

SPACES:

Define areas of your home to be dedicated to certain things. THIS is where we exercise. THIS is where we do homework and study. THIS is the quiet space where Zoom calls are held etc. So make spaces more about the task to do over WHOSE space it is. Then everyone gets to share and rotate and it feels more communal verses ‘mine and yours’. If you are a parent to younger children, screens can break up a kids room to define their play area verses study area so when the time comes for either, there is a clear and focused space to hone in their attention for the best homeschool classroom set up. This simple trick helps tackle homeschool organization for small spaces at the same time.

If that communal approach doesn’t suit you and you’d like your own space, dedicated desk with tools to do your job or books to reference etc look at this moment as an opportunity for you to let your interior designer flourish! You can easily divide a small space with a sound absorbing natural fiber screen that is lightweight and moveable. Two of my favorites are below with clickable links.

I know its wild times but challenges can surprisingly raise our bar and show us how we can rise beyond belief and thrive and adapt. All pretty incredible feats - try to keep finding the positive and when moods dip or frustrations rise tap into your community. Lots of people have wonderful insight that you might resonate with. This ‘together apart’ world still has lots of bright spots. You just have to keep looking for them!

Shine on and stay well loves!

Natural Fiber Screen

I am totally obsessed with this piece. I love natural texture and bohemian aesthetics so this triple cane wood screen beauty is a home addition dream come true.

If your home lends to more minimal, clean lines I also love this modern upholstered panel screen from Houzz. Available in many colors, this would offer more sound absorption privacy and also be an incredible background for your Zoom calls.
